southern rag-a-jazz was formed in the late 1980's by clarinet player, les allen and banjo player bill stagg both of whom had been active on the british jazz scence since the early 1960's playing the jazz club circuit up and down the country. with 30 years experience in that field southern rag-a-jazz decided to concentrate on the private and corporate market.
the wisdom of that vision can be seen today. with appearances at parties, weddings, promotional and sporting events throughout london, the south east and the occasional event abroad, southern rag-a-jazz are in high demand!
the bands repertoire includes popular siongs of the 20's and 30's played with their own swinging style! there is also a liberal sprinkling of traditional jazz standards, show tunes and some of the more popular hits from the 1940's.
